Demonstrations
During the workshop, several commercial instruments and computer
programs were on display. They are listed here in alphabetical order,
with links to the developer and/or distributor.
- EthoVision -
Video tracking, motion analysis and behavior recognition system. For
automatic recording of activity, movement and social interactions of
animals, and complete automation of behavioral tests. Developed and
distributed by Noldus Information Technology.
- EyeCatcher - System for eye tracking and point of gaze
measurement in human subjects. Developed and distributed by
Mooij & Associates,
Oegstgeest, The Netherlands.
- Handheld computers - Compact devices which can be used for mobile data
collection away from the PC. Models on display included the Psion
Organiser, Psion HC, Psion Workabout, Psion Series 3/3a, and HP 95LX.
Developed by Psion, Hewlett-Packard, etc. Distributed by
Noldus Information Technology.
- LABORAS - Balance platform for automatic detection of
behavioral patterns in rodents. Developed and distributed by
Metris System Engineering, Leiden,
The Netherlands.
- MatMan - Program for analysis of sociometric matrices and
behavioral transition matrices. Developed by Han
de Vries, Utrecht, The Netherlands. Distributed by
Noldus Information Technology.
- Radar Actometer - System for motion detection in small
animals by means of doppler radar. Developed and distributed by
Syntech, Hilversum, The Netherlands.
- SIGNAL/RTS - System for acquisition, real-time spectrographic
display, editing, synthesis, analysis and graphical display of
acoustical and vibrational signals. Developed by Engineering Design,
Belmont, U.S.A. Distributed by Noldus Information
Technology.
- SUIVI - Program for automatic recognition of body postures
in rodents based on digital imaging. Developed by
Michael Spratt,
Montpellier, France.
- Theme -
Program for the detection of patterns in time series of observational
data. Developed by Magnus
Magnusson, Reykjavik, Iceland. Distributed by the
Human Behavior
Laboratory, University of Iceland, Reykjavik.
- The Observer -
Professional system for collection, analysis and management of
observational data. For live registration by a human observer, using a
desktop or handheld computer. Developed and distributed by
Noldus Information
Technology.
- UltraVox - System for automatic detection of the onset and offset of ultrasonic vocalizations. Developed and
distributed by Noldus Information Technology.
