Tutorials

Whereas the general presentations at the conference deal with new and innovative methods in behavioral research, tutorials focus on teaching existing methods. Tutorials provide a valuable opportunity to instruct participants of Measuring Behavior 2008 in specific methods, techniques and equipment for behavioral research.

Tutorials usually last 90 minutes. We encourage tutors to present the material in an interactive way, with discussions and/or hands-on elements.

Tutorial topics:

• Using eye tracking for measuring and analyzing human behavior

• Gesture coding with the NGCS - ELAN system (1/2 day)
  

• Psychophysiology Applications using a BIOPAC MP System

• BIOPAC Scoring & Automation Tools for Psychophysiology Analysis

• Analyzing behavior and interactions with Theme: detection and analysis of hidden temporal patterns

• Make your own plug-in software for The Observer with The Observer's Software Development Kit (60 minutes)

• Advanced EthoVision (including use of the zone transitions analysis macro)

• Thermographic recordings; the theory behind and application of; guided by thermographic recordings during short live experiments.

• Behavioral methods for studying memory in animals

• Multimodal research in The Observer XT: how to record, synchronize and manage data from multiple sources

• Working with digital video: understanding MPEG

• Telemetry Monitoring of Physiologic Parameters for Conscious Animals
