Tutorial: Mastering the temperature-dependent behavior in mice studies with the thermal gradient ring

Schedule: Thursday 19th May 13:30 - 14:00 CET, Virtual Room 1

Presenters: Matteo Gaglione, Ugo Basile, Gemonio, Italy. Questions will be answered by Katharina Zimmermann (Erlangen University, Germany).

Description: Current devices such as linear temperature gradients do not allow to discriminate between exploration-driven behavior and thermal-driven behavior. The limitations are especially severe when it comes to quantifying normal cold sensitivity, cold hypersensitivity and cold hyperalgesia. A very large number of research areas do require enhanced sensitivity and robustness versus confounding factors such as exploration and thigmotaxis. To overcome current limitations the novel thermal gradient ring provides a high degree of freedom and thermal choice eliminating experimenter bias.
