xobs: a free open-source video analysis program
Organizer: Matthew S. Sullivan (Manchester Metropolitan University)
Description: The aim was to produce a simple but flexible behavioural recording program, especially suitable for teaching. A video is played in a window and the user can press keys to indicate which behaviours are being displayed. It can be used for instantaneous sampling or continuous recording, states and events and can cope with modifiers. The author had very little coding experience so the software had to be approachable for a beginner. The software also had to have good video handling capabilities. For these reasons the Processing language was chosen. The program has been written using the Processing IDE, is entirely free, and comes with no waranty whatsoever.
This is a video analysis system particularly designed for behavioural recording. A video is played in a window and the user can press keys to indicate which behaviours are being displayed. It can be used for instantaneous sampling or continuous recording.
